Speech by Commissioner Micallef at the 50th Ordinary Congress of UEFA
Commissioner Micallef sent a clear and loud message to the Fifa president to invite him to settle disputes with other stakeholders via a real dialogue, in particular with Fifpro, with the assistance of the European Commission (see attachement).
As counsels for Lassana Diarra, we take this opportunity to recall that Mr. Diarra had no other choice but to go back to the Belgian national jurisdictions to seek compensation for his damage, since Fifa and Urbsfa so far do not seriously consider settling this case. In the Belgian courts proceedings, Fifpro, Fifpro Europe and UNFP (the French players union) stand on the side of Lassana Diarra.
Mr. Diarra believes that trying to settle general issues would be a great achievement for all stakeholders but that, for Fifa, starting by settling his individual case is a must. First thing first.
