The UEC, which comprises around 140 European clubs (including Union Saint-Gilloise, Lokomotiva Zagreb, Burnley FC, Norwich City FC, Aberdeen, Real Valladolid CF, etc.), has voluntarily intervened in support of Royal Antwerp FC in the proceedings between Royal Antwerp FC and Lior Refaelov on the one hand, and UEFA and the URBSFA on the other.

Like Royal Antwerp FC, the UEC maintains that all current rules relating to ‘locally trained players’ – namely those of the URBSFA, UEFA and the thirty or so European national associations that have adopted similar rules – are detrimental to the sporting competitiveness of all clubs in the ‘lower leagues’ as well as smaller clubs in the top leagues.
