European Social Dialogue in professional football becomes concrete

On 1 December 2025, under the auspices of the European Commission, FIFPRO Europe, European Leagues, European Football Club and UEFA (as an observer) have agreed on a "Resolution of European social partners on the key principles of the football transfer system and its reform" (attached).

This is just a first step but it shows that the accumulation over the last years of landmark CJEU rulings, in this case in particular DIARRA, has been, is and will be the real game changer of sports governance in the EU (and hopefully even beyond): CBAs - shielded by the Albany ruling from review under EU Competition law - are the only safe way forward.
